The Dominant 7th sound( or simply a 7th chord) is one of the most important sounds in pretty much every style of Western music, from Classical through Jazz to Metal, so it’s well worth spending the time and effort to get these sounds under your fingers.

Lets start with the intervals.

As you may have already worked out this is a major triad with a b7 added to the triad.

Now lets draw these out in various positions, over a single octave.

Lets now take each one of these one octave arpeggios and add fill in all of the available arpeggio tones that are within reach of the shape.

As you can see, I’ve blanked 2 shapes that ended up being a repeat of an earlier pattern.

So far, so good! The next stage is start understanding these shapes in context.
