I created this jam track to help me to explore the Overtone or Lydian Dominant Scale, which is a mode of the Melodic Minor Scale.
The backing track flips between just 2 chords.
||DMaj7 |Bb7#11 ||
So, over the Dmaj7 I play a DMajor Scale. Over the Bb7#11, I play the Bb Lydian Dominant Scale (which is equivalent to an F Melodic Minor Scale).
Let your imagination go wild, and try playing through the changes in every position on the neck.
Here’s the Jam Track.
There’s a good explanation of the Overtone Dominant Scale, with lots of licks and examples in the following book (In fact, I have all of Ted Greene’s books in my collection).

Enjoy!
