The Mixolydian mode is based on the 5th node of the major scale. Harmonically this is a “Dominant” chord so is equivalent to a major scale with a flattened 7th.
The attached jam track is a very simple chord sequence, designed to allow you to get inside this Dominant sound. All I’m doing is alternating between a A Major and G Major chord, over a simple A bass pedal.
The scales and arpeggios that most naturally fit this are:-
- Mixolydian Mode of the Major Scale
- The Dominant 9th Pentatonic.
- The Major Arpeggios.
- The Dominant 7th Arpeggios.
Here it is
Enjoy!
